Evidence and decision boundaries

Methodology

How NewsletterIdea scopes a question, separates evidence from judgment, validates a report, and communicates uncertainty without exposing customer data or proprietary implementation details.

Evidence contract

A decision process with explicit boundaries.

Inputs are separated from independent evidence. Measured facts, analyst judgments, and derived conclusions are labeled before deterministic validation produces a kill, pivot, or proceed recommendation.

  1. ScopeDefine the audience, problem, geography, and decision.
  2. VerifyCheck independent sources and their permitted use.
  3. ChallengeTest demand, alternatives, economics, and disqualifying risks.
  4. DecideReturn a traceable recommendation with limitations.
01

Inputs and boundaries

The work begins with the customer's audience, employer type, geography, recurring problem, constraints, and decision. Customer statements are treated as inputs, not independent proof. The report states what it did and did not investigate.

02

Independent evidence

Relevant external sources are checked for demand, urgency, reachability, incumbent alternatives, sponsor or subscriber economics, and legal or data-rights constraints. Source identity, date, relevance, and permitted use are retained for review.

03

Source rights

Public facts may be summarized with attribution. Gated, private, licensed, customer-owned, or restricted material is not republished as public evidence. A rights conflict can block publication even when a commercial thesis looks attractive.

04

Evidence labels

Measured identifies a directly observed value. Judged identifies an analyst assessment. Derived identifies a calculation or conclusion based on cited inputs. Missing data remains missing rather than being converted into certainty.

05

Deterministic validation

Machine-readable findings are validated against a versioned contract. Required sections, allowed values, evidence references, arithmetic, rights checks, and cross-field consistency must pass before an artifact can be delivered or considered for publication.

06

Kill, pivot, or proceed

A recommendation is not a forecast. Kill means a blocking condition remains. Pivot means a narrower audience, problem, distribution path, or business model warrants another test. Proceed means the available evidence supports the next bounded investment.

Limitations and reproducibility

Time-bound evidence
Markets, products, regulations, and sources change. Every conclusion is tied to a research and source-check period.
Reproducibility
Runs, artifacts, findings schemas, methodology versions, and content hashes retain identifiers so an authorized reviewer can trace what produced a result.
Customer isolation
Customer ideas and paid artifacts are isolated from public inventory. They are not reused to create catalog opportunities.
No performance promise
The method reduces decision uncertainty; it cannot guarantee audience growth, revenue, sponsor demand, or execution quality.
